Proenza Schouler is a New York City-based women’s luxury fashion brand founded by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez in 2002. McCollough and Hernandez both attended Parson’s School of Design. As students, they collaborated on their senior project which became their first collection. The entire first collection of the classmates was subsequently purchased by Barneys New York. The partners named their company after the maiden names of their mothers.
The Proenza Schouler brand has received numerous accolades and awards during their early history. The company describes its designs as being “defined by its fusion of craftsmanship and attention to detail with a sense of refined ease”. The design team launched their first handbag collection in 2008. This handbag collection included the PS1 satchel bag, which went on to become the brand’s signature. In 2012, they began producing and distributing luxury shoes as well.
